The Enlightenment
-Era from 1700-1780
-Places were established for people to gather and discuss new ideas
-Encouraged independent thought, investigating, reasoning and problem solving
-Science fields were expanded, such as astronomy, politics and medicine
-Established scientific theories and facts still used today
Satire
-Type of literature that exposes problems in society by making fun of them
-Instead of using a serious tone to persuade, writers use humor
-Often has a narrator who observes without emotion
-Irony: using words to say the opposite of what is expected or truly meant
-Exaggeration: making something seem better or worse than it actually is
-Parody: imitating an author/their work to make fun of the author, their ideas, or their work
