Today, students were asked to bring in an example of a Romantic poem (one that uses at least one of the elements of Romanticism).

In class, we read the poem "Ozymandias by Percy Shelley, and then drew a cartoon strip to illustrate the poem.

Today in class we turned in the homework from last Friday (see previous post) and talked about Romanticism, the time period that came directly after the Enlightenment.

For homework: Please find/print a poem that may be considered "Romantic", whether it be in English or your home language.

If you missed class, this video summarizes Romanticism very well. Please watch it and write down or email me three things you learned from it.

For the weekend, please answer the following questions, using your notes and the annotated text.
  1. What is the main idea of the text?
  2. How are the trials described?
  3. How does your knowledge of satire and the Enlightenment affect your reading of the text?

Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Today, in class, we started a discussion on Benjamin Franklin's "A Witch Trial at Mount Holly". We discussed the Enlightenment, satire, and began reading and annotating the text.

Homework: Continue reading in the text and bring annotations to class tomorrow.
